I’ve been wondering the same for 20 some odd years, so if you know, please let me know! 😉
My name is Kallie –> Like the state, but minus the -fornia. I’m 27 years old, live in Kansas City, work at a coffee shop and write for a local magazine. I enjoy cooking, drawing, painting, writing, listening to music and pretending I can sing. I am constantly reading and researching all of my many thoughts. I love reading blogs on recipes, healthy lifestyles, budgeting, frugal living, minimalism, tiny homes and anything else I can think of. I’m an introvert by nature — INFJ, if you’re into that kind of stuff.
I’ve been married for over 5 years to the sweetest man. He’ll eat anything I put in front of him and almost always like it. He loves sports — specifically baseball, but also football. He also loves the great outdoors. We’ve recently started hiking and biking and it’s been a lot of fun. (Yes, our dogs are wearing backpacks. They like hiking too.)
We met mid-March, 2010, knew we were going to get married by late April, started pre-marital counseling in June, announced our engagement in October and married March 5, 2011. We relocated to Kansas City in October, 2011 for him to pursue seminary. After a couple years, we decided seminary was no longer for us, but we fell in love with Kansas City and have decided to stay. Our goals and direction has changed many times since we got married, but it seems we’ve always somehow stayed on the same page. God is good like that.
We have two dogs — Lucy & Ethel and they are amazing. We adopted both of them from a local shelter — Lucy in April, 2015 and Ethel in June, 2015. They are the snuggliest dogs you’ll ever meet and are completely unaware of their size. If your lap is an option, they want to be sitting in it. Lucy (left) is a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Boxer mix. Ethel (right) is a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Mastiff/Labrador Retriever mix. They are 6 months apart in age and have been best friends since day 1. Lucy is the sassiest dog you will ever meet. She is very vocal and constantly barking or howling something. Ethel is much quieter, but much more playful. Ethel is my sous chef in the kitchen. If I’m cooking, she’s laying there watching very intently– you can tell she’s thinking. Lucy typically shows up just in time for taste testing or floor cleaning.
I have a passion for cooking that extends throughout all diet/lifestyle needs. I want the recipes I provide to be more than just foods that meet certain dietary restrictions. I want them to be wholesome, nutritious, thrifty, delicious and simple. My goal is to inspire people of all walks and diets to begin cooking again — not provide a certain group of people with recipes. You can find food blogs to meet all kinds of lifestyles — paleo, gluten free, dairy free, vegan, low-carb, etc. This isn’t one of those. This blog will hit all over the place and hopefully provide recipes that can fit multiple lifestyles. If you are looking for certain types of recipes, I highly recommend using the search bar. I do my best to categorize recipes by the types of diets they fit into and by the main ingredients. For instance, you can search “gluten free” to come up with all of the gluten free recipes or search “Avocado” to find avocado recipes.
I hope you find new inspiration and motivation as you browse through my recipes and random thoughts on cooking!
